Yakushi Nyorai with mended hands; Shikoku, Japan; 2006

This bronze of Yakushi Nyorai, the buddha of healing and medicine, has been patched up with some rough plaster or concrete. One can speculate that the hands were stolen by a rival temple or sect, as happened often with relics in feudal Japan.
